Sydney’s third CBD will soon be under construction after securing a $1.15 billion investment from the New South Wales Government.
The Bradfield City Centre is located at the doorstep of the new Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport, within the Western Sydney Aerotropolis, and this development is expected to support about 17,600 highly skilled jobs.
“This is another exciting step forward in realising the Government’s vision for this city-building project.
“We have named the new Aerotropolis city, Bradfield, and now work is set to begin to turn what is essentially a paddock today into a thriving global city centre,” Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.
This significant investment includes $975.5 million to deliver enabling works that will establish, remediate and allow site access to approximately 100 hectares of land, aiding the economic recovery in New South Wales and across Australia from the recent pandemic.
In addition, the funding will also create a key Indo-Pacific economic hub that will open opportunities for investment in advanced manufacturing, aerospace and defence as well as agri-business, pharma, freight and logistics, health and education.
“Bradfield City will be the next jewel in Sydney’s crown and we’re putting in the groundwork to deliver an iconic city that will unlock new economic opportunities, particularly for people of Western Sydney.
“The pandemic has shown us the importance of investing in our own backyard and this investment will create a precinct that will be home to businesses and industries that will create jobs not just today, but into the future as well,” NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said.
Funding has also been committed to establish the First Building in the new city centre along with funding for a four-year pilot of the New Education and Training Model (NETM).
“The government has committed $138.2 million for the First Building which includes a $24.9 million high-tech facility which will house $22.9 million worth of shared-use equipment for research institutions and industry to collaborate.
“The NETM is a new model of tertiary education aimed at helping advanced industries access skilled labour. We are dedicating $37.4 million to the program over five years to provide more than 7,000 courses for almost 3,000 students,” Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said.
The funding injection will also deliver new community and recreation facilities such as 36 hectares of open space, retail spaces and childcare.
The $1.15 billion investment will kick start the first stage of works on Australia’s first 22nd century city that will attract global competitive advanced industries as well as create 200,000 new jobs across the Western Parkland City.
The Bradfield City Centre is going to be built on land owned by the Government, near Badgerys Creek Road in Bringelly. Bradfield City Centre is also just minutes away from the Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport via a new Metro Station at the heart of the city.
Subject to necessary approvals and community engagement, construction on Bradfield City Centre is anticipated to commence later this year.
