A $1.645 billion housing plan has been unveiled by the Northern Territory government. The Better Remote Homes program aims to build at least 240 houses a year over the span of eight years in the state’s remote communities.
The National Partnership on Remote Housing – funded by the Federal Government – has already committed to build 380 new houses as well as deliver over 1,000 upgrades for the next two years.
“These programs are worth almost $2 billion and amount to the Territory’s biggest funding commitment to remote housing since self-government 38 years ago.” – Chief Minister Adam Giles
The Better Remote Homes program is funded by the Federal and Northern Territory governments as well as philanthropic and private sectors.
