Several major works will get underway this year on the Sydney Metro West development following the signing of four key contracts with a combined worth of $11.5 billion.

Remaining contracts for Sydney Metro West stations at Parramatta, Sydney Olympic Park, and Pyrmont will be announced this year.
“Awarding these contracts is an important moment for Sydney Metro West which takes the project from tunnelling to track-laying, station building, systems and train operation.
“The stations in the Stations Package West will stand as a new gateway from western Sydney to the rest of the city. New interchange links at Westmead and North Strathfield will allow metro passengers to connect directly with Sydney Train services, strengthening the wider transport network.
“New stations at The Bays, Five Dock and Burwood North will deliver metro access to areas currently without rail services, while the station at The Bays will act as a catalyst for unlocking a major new housing and employment precinct.
“Hunter Street Station will be the busiest station on the line, providing a 20-minute connection to Parramatta as well as pedestrian connections to Wynyard, and the M1 line metro platforms at Martin Place. These are exciting, city-shaping developments,” Minister for Transport John Graham said.
Separately, three consortia have been shortlisted and invited to tender for the Pyrmont Integrated Station Development. The consortia are:
The chosen consortium will undertake the delivery of the Pyrmont underground station and 31-storey building integrated development above it, which will feature five levels of commercial and retail space as well as up to 160 new apartments.
The Sydney Metro West project will deliver a new 24-kilometre underground metro railway that will double the rail capacity between Parramatta and the Sydney CBD. It will provide fast, reliable, turn-up-and-go metro services with fully accessible stations as well as linking new communities to rail services and support employment growth and housing supply.
This once-in-a-century infrastructure development will create approximately 10,000 direct and 70,000 indirect jobs during the construction phase.
Once up and running in 2032, travel times on Sydney Metro West trains will include:
“These contracts mark a major step forward for Sydney Metro West, taking the project from tunnelling to track laying, train procurement and station construction and bringing Sydney closer to fast, reliable metro services.
“With these landmark signings in place, Sydney Metro West is set for a busy and exciting 2026 and beyond – we look forward to working closely with our delivery partners to progress this city-shaping project that will transform the way our city moves,” Sydney Metro Chief Executive Peter Regan said.
