$200m Westin waterfront hotel in Darwin NT given the green light

The Development Consent Authority has granted planning approval to the $200 million Westin luxury hotel - to be operated by Westin Hotels and Resorts - which will be located at the Darwin Waterfront.

The new waterfront luxury hotel is expected to create up to 500 local jobs during construction as well as a further 150 jobs once the hotel is operational.

Landbridge - the project developer - is currently undertaking procurement processes that will identify local capacity. Interested local suppliers and contractors are encouraged to register their details through the project’s ICN Gateway page or the Westin Darwin Hotel’s website.

“We have been working with ICN Gateway to assess local capacity and this is a great opportunity for local businesses,” Landbridge Group Vice President Mike Hughes said.

The project will include the construction of a new seawall, public footpaths and public boardwalk that will connect through to Jervois Road and onto the cruise ship terminal.

The Northern Territory Government has invested approximately $17 million towards the delivery of public infrastructure, including a 200-metre Skywalk that will connect the hotel to the CBD. The Skywalk project has also been approved under the terms of the Heritage Act.

“The Hotel will be a drawcard for high-end business and leisure visitors and give Darwin a significant edge in the lucrative business conference market, growing our relationships with our international neighbours and potential private investors.

“Locals will also love the features of the Luxury hotel, set in lush, tropical gardens with a rooftop restaurant and bar, and improved connectivity from the Waterfront to the CBD via an iconic Skywalk which will be a destination in its own right, to showcase the spectacular view on offer,” Chief Minister Michael Gunner said.

This development will not impact access to Darwin’s waterfront area.

Construction of the new Westin Darwin Hotel is expected to commence this year and it is projected to open to the public in 2021.
