$241m investment for QLD Bruce Highway interchange upgrade

Monica Gameng   |   April 16, 2019

Works to upgrade Queensland’s Bruce Highway-Maroochydore Road Interchange is one step closer to commencing with the Australian Government committing approximately $241 million towards the project, including a $91.4 million investment from the 2019-20 Federal Budget.

This project is expected to cost approximately $301.3 million to build and works will include upgrading the Maroochydore Road and Mons Road interchanges as well as build two-way service roads on the western and eastern sides of the interchange.

Other works will include extending Owen Creek Road to Sunshine Coast Grammar School and the installation of new drainage structures that will help maintain and improve flood immunity.

“This project will improve network efficiency and capacity, address current and emerging safety issues, and respond to community issues, including bicycle and pedestrian access and safer separation between local and regional traffic.

“This project will also include planning works for the section of the Bruce Highway between the Sunshine Motorway and the Maroochydore Road Interchange,” Federal Member for Fairfax Ted O’Brien said.

The Australian and State Governments will jointly fund the project on an 80:20 basis.

Construction on the Bruce Highway-Maroochydore Road Interchange Upgrade is expected to support up to 150 jobs, with construction anticipated to commence in early 2020 and due for completion by mid-2022.
