The Etheridge Shire Council has green-lighted the development of the Kidston 2 solar farm (K2-Solar), which will be located approximately 270 kilometres north west of Townsville in North Queensland.

This project by Genex Power will involve the construction of a 270MW solar farm that is going to be co-located with the 250MW Kidston 2 pumped storage hydro project (K2-Hydro).

In December 2017, UGL Limited – a CIMIG Group member – was selected as the preferred engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for K2-Solar.

Genex Power is currently advancing towards closing the EPC contracts with UGL for K2-Solar as well as with the McConnell Dowell – Downer EDI joint venture for K2-Hydro. The two EPC contracts are expected to be finalised by the end of June 2018. The company is also focusing on bringing in financial close for the entire Kidston 2 Hydro-Solar project.

“After several months of detailed market engagement, we are now in negotiations in regards to securing debt funding for our Kidston Stage 2 project with a select group of partners. Genex’s main focus remains on progressing the Kidston Stage 2 projects to financial close in calendar year 2018,” Genex Power Managing Director Michael Addison said.
