Seymour Whyte wins $31m contract for Nepean River Green Bridge

Seymour Whyte has been awarded the contract to construct the new pedestrian and cyclist 'Green Bridge' across the Nepean River at Penrith, west of Sydney NSW.

The contract to construct Australia's longest uninterrupted, single-span, shared-user bridge - sitting at 200m long - is worth an estimated $31m in revenue.

Seymour Whyte Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, John Kirkwood, said that the engineering team had a "strong focus on delivering operation efficiencies and innovation in the construction of the bridge".

The design ensures the least amount of interruption on rowing, and user groups across the river. Upon completion, the Nepean River bridge will have just one permanent pier on the western side of the river and will be the same height as the Victoria Bridge.

The structure will have a 4.6m-wide steel walkway with viewing terraces. Other works include

  • construction of retaining walls
  • piles and piers to support the bridge
  • reconstruction of a 130m section of Punt Rd
  • adjustments to overhead and underground utilities
  • provision of lighting and landscaping improvements

Construction work will start in mid-late 2016 and the bridge is expected to be completed in 2018.
