Through the New South Wales Government’s $5 billion WestInvest program, significant funding amounting to $385 million has been allocated to upgrade Richmond Road.

The critical upgrades to Richmond Road are going to be a game-changer for families and businesses who use this road each day.

“We are making sure families across Western Sydney who use Richmond Road can get to where they need to safely and sooner.

“This upgrade to Richmond Road is only possible because the NSW Liberal and Nationals long-term economic plan to keep our state moving forward,” Premier Dominic Perrottet said.

The multi-million-dollar investment will transform Richmond Road to ensure motorists have smoother and safer journeys on this vital corridor.

“The Liberal and Nationals Government is committed to future proofing the primary north-south arterial route between Richmond and the M7 Motorway, which passes through the key communities of Hawkesbury, Penrith and Blacktown.

“We are able to support the growth of Sydney’s north-west because of the NSW Government’s strong economic management and the WestConnex asset recycling program,” Treasurer Matt Kean said.

Works to be covered by the $385 million funding include:

  • $285 million for planning and early works to widen six lanes a 2.2-kilometre section between the M7 Motorway and Townson Road and to build a new off-ramp bridge to connect Richmond Road to Westlink M7
  • $100 million to widen to four lanes a section of Richmond Road between Elara Boulevard and Heritage Road at Marsden Park

Upgrading the two sections of Richmond Road will help improve flood resilience during flooding events.

“This is a rapidly growing area and we need to ensure families, tradies and truckies can rely on this key route to get to work and home to their loved ones.

“We are connecting people to areas of employment, education facilities, shopping centres, and providing an evacuation route for those living in the Hawkesbury-Nepean flood catchment,” Minister for Metropolitan Roads Natalie Ward said.

As the Richmond Road project progresses, Transport for NSW will continue to provide the community with updates.
