The $407 million Darlington Point Solar Farm development near Griffiths in New South Wales has marked new milestones with project developer Edify Energy together with its partner Octopus Investments reaching financial close, taking the project one step closer to construction.

Once the 275MW solar farm is up and operational, it is expected to generate up to 685,000MWh of renewable energy, which is enough to power up to 115,000 homes annually. Aside from the solar farm, this development will also include a 100MW battery storage system.

“We are excited to add the largest solar farm in Australia to our portfolio of developed, financed and operational projects. Delivering a portfolio of energy and battery storage projects that will power over 280,000 Australian homes is something we are proud of,” Edify Energy Chief Executive John Cole said.

Construction of the project is anticipated to create up to 400 jobs during its peak.

The project has also marked other milestones, including the signing of a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Delta Electricity for about 55 per cent of the output from the solar farm; as well as the awarding of an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) and operation and maintenance (O&M) contracts to Signal Energy Australia and Canadian Solar.

The Darlington Point Solar Farm is expected to begin generating power in 2020.
