Hundreds of new homes are being fast-tracked to be built in Glen Waverley as the Allan Labor Government green lights the development on Springvale Road, within walking distance of the future Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) station.
The $410 million project is accelerated through the State Government’s Development Facilitation Program (DFP), and it will deliver two new 35 and 30-storey buildings featuring a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom apartments with a basement parking and space for new retail.
“We are getting on delivering more homes for young Victorians, so that they can have the same opportunities their parents had.
“More houses mean more opportunities, and that is exactly what this new development will provide for those wanting to live in Glen Waverley,” Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny said.
The 795 new homes will be built near Glen Waverley Primary School, The Glen shopping centre, and the future SRL Glen Waverley Station.
The new SRL Glen Waverley Station will provide more connections to passengers while slashing travel times:
“The new SRL Glen Waverley Station will help connect our local community to jobs, education and world-class healthcare, and I am pleased to see this once-in-a-generation project progress further,” Member for Glen Waverley John Mullahy said.
Since the DFP was established, more than 8,300 homes have been fast-tracked to ensure more homes are built closer to world-class transport.
Construction of the Suburban Rail Loop continues to power ahead, with over 3,000 people already working on the project and tunnelling works to commence this year.
The SRL project will support the delivery of 70,000 new homes across the six station precincts to help more young Victorians find and afford a home within walking distance of public transport.
“The Suburban Rail Loop will slash travel times and cut congestion for busy families – while delivering 70,000 more homes within walking distance to jobs, healthcare, green open spaces and Australia’s largest universities.
“We are getting on delivering a new underground station in the heart of Glen Waverley, with more homes, jobs, services and quality open space in walking distance,” Minister for Suburban Rail Loop Harriet Shing said.
