The approved mixed-use development - designed by Hillam Architects - will comprise of two towers that span 43 and 33 storeys respectively. The twin towers will feature:

  • A 119-room hotel
  • 314 residential apartment units, with 37 units earmarked as affordable housing

Iconic Scarborough will also feature an art gallery and cafe with public viewing area on the top floor, together with a WA Coastal Experience Centre that will offer visitors and tourists a showcase of the coast from Esperance to Wyndham.

“Iconic Scarborough will be strategically important asset for WA. It will promote tourism, provide a new place for local people to enjoy, improve the accommodation offering, and create exciting new retail and food opportunities.

“3 Oceans would like to thank Western Australians and the Scarborough community for their support and encouragement of the project,” 3 Oceans Property Managing Director Dyno Zhang said.

According to Mr Zhang, the project team has worked hard to revise the development application to address the issues initially raised by the MRA when the development plan was first submitted. With the revisions, the design has achieved ‘design excellence’ status from the Design Mediation Group.

The project is expected to create up to 2,200 jobs during construction as well as more than 700 permanent jobs in the region.

“The development will make a significant contribution to the ongoing transformation of Scarborough, building on government investment and catalysing private development,” MRA Chair George McCullagh said.

Early works on the project is expected to commence immediately, with major construction activities projected to begin in January 2019.
