500+ jobs supported by $41.8m WA Onslow Health Services redevelopment

Construction on Onslow’s new $41.8 million health services has commenced and Cockram Construction Ltd has won the tender to build the health facility.

“Residents will have the services of an expanded three-bed emergency department, a six-bed inpatient unit with single rooms each with ensuites, a digital imaging department and telehealth links for rapid access to off-site emergency specialists.

“It will also have a new pathology, dental, child health, community mental health, community health nursing, physiotherapy, speech and occupational therapy and counselling facilities,” said Health Minister John Day.

According to Regional Development Minister Terry Redman, the Onslow Health Service is a vital part of the WA Government’s $194.1 million North West Health Initiative.

“Investment in health infrastructure is critical for community sustainability and I am proud the Royalties for Regions program is investing $150.1 million in the initiative,” Mr Redman said.

Mr Redman also said that the design and construction of the new Onslow Health Service will be supporting up to 530 jobs.

Funding for this project includes $22 million from the Wheatstone LNG project – operated by Chevron – that’s located 12 kilometres west of the town. According to State Development Minister Bill Marmion, under Wheatstone’s State Development Agreement, they have committed over $250 million to social and critical infrastructure projects across Onslow.

“Almost a dozen State agencies are involved in delivering these projects, which together are making Onslow a more vibrant, modern and liveable town and ensuring residents benefit from the development of the Wheatstone project,” Mr Marmion said.

The new Onslow Health Services facility is expected to be completed in 2018.
