The Victorian Government has approved the $500 million redevelopment project of the Westfield Doncaster and the project is expected to create up to 2,000 jobs during construction as well as 2,900 new full-time and part-time positions at the shopping centre once it is completed.

Melbourne is already the nation’s retail capital and this major expansion will cement its reputation for the years to come.

“This project will create thousands of jobs, draw thousands of shoppers from across the world, and will be a major boost to Victoria’s economy,” Minister for Planning Richard Wynne said.

The half-a-billion dollar Westfield Doncaster expansion will include the construction of a 14-storey gateway building above a two-level podium that features premium retail options at the development’s north-west section.

This project will also include upgrading the bus interchange, additional car parking and improving car and pedestrian access in the shopping centre.

Expansion of Westfield Doncaster will ultimately add approximately 43,000-SQM of retail as well as 18,000-SQM of commercial office space.

Community feedback on the project have been considered following a public viewing of the masterplan in December and January.

With the development approval, the project developer can now apply for a Planning Permit with the Manningham City Council and ensure the local community that their needs are delivered through the project.

“The expansion to Westfield Doncaster will create thousands of local jobs and make this shopping district even better.

“We’ve listened to community feedback on this development and now we’re making sure it gets underway,” Member for Eastern Metropolitan Shaun Leane said.
