Works are set to begin in 2018 on a $588 million level crossing removal project that will remove more congested and dangerous level crossings along the Frankston Line in Victoria.
“These dangerous and congested level crossings will soon be relics of the past with major work starting next year.
“This project will reduce congestion, improve public transport and save lives. We promised to get rid of these crossings and we’re getting it done,” Premier Daniel Andrews said.
Construction will begin in Carrum and Seaford, with a consortium comprising of LendLease, Acciona Coleman and WSP delivering the project.

This project will also include building a new Street Station road-bridge over the Patterson River as well as reconfiguration works on local roads to connect McLeod Road to the Nepean Highway. In addition, train stabling will be moved away from Carrum with a new train storage facility near Kananook Station – allowing up to 24 trains to be stored.
As part of the Seaford Road level crossing removal, the R.F Miles reserves and surrounds will be upgraded.
Once the new road bridge across Patterson River is completed, it will connect Bonbeach and Carrum via Station Street for the first time. The new road bridge is expected to be completed by the end of next year and it will provide an alternative route to the busy Nepean Highway.
Pedestrians and cyclists will also benefit from this project, with four safe crossings across the Nepean Highway as well as a new path that will stretch all the way to Frankston via Seaford Station. A new pedestrian underpass will also be built at Eel Race Road as well.
This multi-million dollar project will also revitalise Carrum Village around a new station and promenade that will extend McLeod Road to the beach – connecting both sides of Carrum with more open space and new parking.
“These works bring an exciting opportunity for this local community – new stations, more vibrant open spaces and the ability for locals to get home safer and sooner,” Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan said.

Stage one of the project will commence in early 2018, with approximately 400 jobs to be created during construction.
