The South Australian Government has given the green light to the development of another large-scale renewable energy project. The $650 million Bungama project is a 280MW solar plus 140MW battery storage development near Port Pirie.

Bungama Solar is part of EPS Energy’s more than 1GW renewable energy pipeline to be built in the State.

“This planning approval has come on the back of the excellent community, local government and state government support that we have received for these projects.

“EPS Energy consider the portfolio along with other projects throughout the state as significant for South Australia to continue as a transitional world leader in renewable energy and storage solutions,” EPS Energy Director Steve McCall said.

Bungama Solar is going to be built on a 530-hectare site in the suburbs of Bungama, Napperby and Warnertown. The development will comprise of approximately 800,000 solar panels and it will be integrated to the National Electricity Market through a 275kV connection via ElectraNet’s Bungama Substation.

During its construction phase, the solar plus storage project will support up to 275 jobs, including the employment of a local and regional workforce.

Once operational, Bungama Solar will create eight full-time operational jobs and be able to generate enough renewable energy to power about 86,000 homes annually.

Earlier this month, the State Government also approved the development of EPS Energy’s $1.17 billion Robertstown Solar project. You can read more about it here.
