CIMIC Group company CPB Contractors has announced that the first of two lanes of the newly built Pedler Creek Bridge in South Australia is now to motorists.
This marks a significant milestone on the delivery of the Main South Road Duplication Project that is being carried out by the Fleurieu Connection Alliance – a consortium comprised of CPB Contractors, Aurecon and GHD with sub-Alliance partners McMahon Services Australia and Tonkin, in association with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport.
The new bridge measures 161-metres-long and 24-metres-wide and it is supported by 50 locally poured super-T concrete beams that each weighs up to 64 tonnes and are about 35-metres-long. These beams were set in place using a 400-tonne mobile crane along with a 700-tonne crawler crane.
The new Pedler Creek Bridge is part of a plan that will provide a solution to the growing traffic volumes in the region. Once the bridge is completed, it will also feature a shared cyclist and pedestrian path.

Major construction on Main South Road Duplication Project – Stage 1 commenced in April of 2022 and is expected to be completed by mid-2024.
The Australian and South Australian Governments have jointly committed $685 million towards the Fleurieu Connections Main South Road and Victor Harbor Road duplication projects.
The Fleurieu Connections Alliance is also delivering the Victor Harbor Road Duplication Project. The project involves duplicating the road between Main South Road and the McLaren Vale turn off along with the delivery of additional treatments along Victor Harbor Road, including an overtaking lane at Hindmarsh Valley.
The Victor Harbor Road Duplication Project is expected to be completed in early 2024.
