7 incredible ways to customise old shipping containers

Gina Theron   |   May 2, 2016
Shipping containers are used worldwide and required for most import and export needs. Rather than simply discarding and replacing old, damaged or unused shipping containers, people have decided to recycle them and what they've come up with is pretty impressive.

Office space

A US charity event company uses shipping containers as office space. These stackable office spaces are cheap, simple and maneuverable helping any business utilise its floor space more efficiently.

Shopping Centre

This 85 foot tall shopping centre, in an industrial quarter of Europe, was constructed by stacking shipping containers. The bag retailer wanted to convey the company values through the use of recycled materials.

Swimming pool

Shipping containers are made entirely of steel and the way they are assembled makes them stronger and more durable than the typical above ground swimming pool.

Cafes

Student accommodation

In Keetwonen Amsterdam shipping containers have been used to construct student housing with a thousand dorms, making it the biggest container city in the world.
