A $700 million contract extension has been awarded by AngloGold Ashanti to Barminco Holdings, extending the latter’s operations at the Sunrise Dam gold project in Western Australia for another five years.

Barminco has been in operations at Sunrise Dam since 2003, when the first underground portal was cut. With this contract extension, the company will be supporting AngloGold Ashanti’s plans to increase annual production at the Sunrise Dam underground operations to go beyond the current rate of 3 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa).

According to Barminco Chief Executive Officer Paul Muller, the company has been working hard towards fully optimising productivity and efficiency as well as deliver quality operational and safety performance at the mine.

“This contract extension speaks volumes about our commitment to AngloGold, the relationship we have built with them and the results that have been delivered at Sunrise Dam over the past 15 years.

“We are very pleased to extend our relationship and continue work to achieve our shared vision with AngloGold to further increase annual production using our latest equipment and cutting-edge technologies,” Mr Muller said.

Barminco’s underground mining operations is the primary source of ore for the Sunrise Dam gold project - located approximately 220 kilometres north east of Kalgoorlie and 55 kilometres south of Laverton.
