CIMIC Group company Thiess will continue delivering work at MACH Energy’s Mount Pleasant coal mine in New South Wales following the official award of a $920 million contract extension.
The new contract award will get Thiess to provide mining services for a further four and a half years into 2026.
“Since 2017, Thiess has provided expert planning and optimum mine sequencing to deliver exceptional outcomes for our client. This contract extension builds on our strong five-year relationship with MACH Energy at Mount Pleasant. We’re pleased to continue to drive long-term social, environmental and economic value for the Upper Hunter region,” Thiess Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chairman Michael Wright said.

With this contract extension, Thiess will continue delivering mining services to the Mount Pleasant operations. This includes drill and blast, overburden removal, coal mining services and rehabilitations works.
Execution of this new contract will commence in April 2022.
Thiess is currently providing mining services to three mines in the Hunter Valley, creating a strong presence in the region.
In addition, the company is committed to delivering social benefits through local employment and training as well as local procurements, community engagement and Indigenous affairs.
The Mount Pleasant coal mine is located approximately 2.5 kilometres from Muswellbrook in the Upper Hunter Valley. This mining operation is comprised of a greenfield open cut coal mine with an estimated 475 million tonnes of reserve to be mined.
Mine construction commenced in November 2016 and the scope of works included building a coal preparation plant, rail loop, mine infrastructure area, water management system and supporting facilities.
