Acciona Georgiou JV to design & build new Cross River Rail Gold Coast station

Georgiou Group has recently announced that it has been awarded the contract to design and build the new Hope Island Station, along with its joint venture partner Acciona. 

The new Hope Island Station is being built as part of the Cross River Rail New Gold Coast Stations Program that will also deliver new stations at Pimpama and Merrimac. 

The Acciona Georgiou Joint Venture will undertake the delivery of: 

• Station facilities including station buildings, customer service, ticketing gates, passenger information services and bathrooms 
• Station elements including elevators, stairs, plaza canopy, fencing and CCTV 
• Station platforms and telecommunication requirements 
• Park ‘n’ ride car park and associated service infrastructure 
• Lock-up bicycle enclosure 
• Public transport interfaces including a bus stop, accessible taxi rank and kiss ‘n’ ride bays 
• New signalised intersection upgrade at Hope Island Road 
• Active transport infrastructure into the existing local shared user path network

These projects will transform the region’s infrastructure, increasing connectivity and supporting various modes of safe transport for the community,” Georgiou Group Queensland General Manager Sean Donald said. 

“The project adds to Georgiou’s solid track record of recent projects in the region, including the Coomera Connector Stage 1 North, Pacific Motorway upgrades, the City of Gold Coast Green Bridge and Isle of Capri Bridge, and is a great opportunity for our local Gold Coast team,” Georgiou Group Chief Executive Officer Gary Georgiou said.

Enabling works on the Hope Island Station project commenced in mid-2023 and major construction on the new Cross River Rail station will begin in early 2024. 

Contracts for all three Gold Coast stations are now awarded. ADCO Constructions is delivering the Pimpama station – with major construction now underway – and Fulton Hogan has been awarded the contract to design and build Merrimac Station. 

All three stations are expected to be operational in line with the first Cross River Rail services to the Gold Coast. 

The overall Cross River Rail development will deliver a 10.2-kilometre new rail line with a 5.9-kilometre twin tunnels that run under the Brisbane River and CBD; four new underground stations at Boggo Road, Woolloongabba, Albert Street and Roma Street; a new above ground station at Exhibition; rebuild seven suburban stations between Dutton Park and Salisbury; three new stations on the Gold Coast; new train stabling facilities at Clapham Yard and Mayne Yard; and installation of a new world class signalling system. 

Once up and running, Cross River Rail will transform the way people travel across the entirety of South East Queensland. Commutes will be quicker with new stations at more convenient locations along the rail corridor and there will be an increase in train services that can cater to the growing demand for fast and efficient public transport.
