Adani’s $21.7 billion Carmichael project – located north of the Galilee Basin in Queensland – is another step closer to construction by securing the final major approval from the State and Federal Governments.
According to State Development Minister Dr Anthony Lynham, this recent and final approval from the Queensland Government is for the construction of a 31.5-kilometre permanent rail line into Abbot Point as well as a temporary 300-bed construction workers’ camp.
“This is another key milestone for the project, which Adani has confirmed it will start construction on next year,” Dr Lynham said.
The Carmichael project has already received all primary approvals as well as given a “critical infrastructure” status by the Queensland Government and it was also exempted from the new water legislation.
The rail line included in the recent approval is going to be part of the 389-kilometre standard gauge, heavy haul railway line from the Galilee Basin coal mine to the Port of Abbot Point’s coal export.
Adani is expecting to commence construction on its Carmichael mine by September 2017.
