ADCO has signed an early contractor involvement agreement as the company was chosen as the preferred builder for the Port Hedland International Airport (PHIA) terminal building redevelopment project in Western Australia.

The $30 million Woods Bagot-designed project will include extending the airport terminal to be approximately 800-SQM larger and will feature a more modern and welcoming interior.

With improved functionality and the latest developments in terminal design, the PHIA will be able to provide the Port Hedland community as well as the broader Pilbara region with a safer and updated facility.

Key considerations taken into the design of the new terminal include flexibility, sustainability and future growth.

Future use of the PHIA terminal is anticipated to increase from the current 400,000 passengers a year.

Construction on the terminal building is going to be undertaken in a live environment, with works due to be completed in the second quarter of 2021.
