Additional $250m investment committed to Bandon Road Upgrade

The New South Wales Government is committing an additional $250 million in the 2026-27 State Budget to get the ball rolling on the priority eastern section of the Bandon Road Upgrade in Sydney’s booming North West.

The additional investment builds on the $75 million initial funding for planning and early works that was promised by the Minns Labor Government before the last election. The project is now progressing well towards major construction.

“These roads were never built to accommodate the thousands of families who now call suburbs like Riverstone and Box Hill home.

“Before the last election we said we’d put money aside for the necessary planning work to design the Bandon Road upgrade to make sure we provide the infrastructure these communities need.

“We’ve delivered on that promise, and today we’re getting on with the job of ensuring this significant project gets off the ground,” Premier Chris Minns said.

Stage 1 of the upgrade from Windsor Road to Vineyard Station is comprised of a 2.5-kilometre section of new and upgraded road, including four lanes between Windsor Road and west of the Richmond railway line.

Early works commenced in April of this year, involving the construction of a new commuter car park with more than 70 parking spaces at Vineyard Station alongside upgrades to bus stops and improvements to pedestrian access, lighting and safety.

“This investment in Bandon Road is another example of the Minns Labor Government getting on with the job of fixing the infrastructure backlog left behind after years of poor planning and broken promises by the former Liberal National government.

“For local families, this upgrade means less time commuting and more reliable trips to work, school and home.

“After more than a decade of neglect from the Liberals, the Minns Labor Government is delivering the investment our community deserves – infrastructure that keeps pace with growth,” Deputy Premier and Minister for Western Sydney Prue Car said.

Major works are anticipated to begin at the end of the year and will include:

• A new four lane divided road with the option for future widening to six lanes
• New connector roads including a new southern connection road and realigned Wallace Road, part of the flood evacuation route
• Upgraded intersections including at Windsor Road and Chapman Road
• Removal of the existing dangerous and congested level crossing at Vineyard Station
• Better access to public transport with improved connections to Vineyard Station, including a new pedestrian bridge
• A new off-road shared path for pedestrians and cyclists
• Improved flood access with upgrades to flood evacuation routes and improved drainage

The Bandon Road Upgrade is being designed to meet future demands, with more than 300,000 additional people expected to call North West Sydney home in the coming years.

“Communities in Sydney’s North West are watching their neighbourhoods expand and change at an exponential rate, and with major new housing and employment development on the horizon, this region is only going to boom over the next decade.

“Growth of that scale doesn’t wait, and neither can our roads.

“We are investing $250 million in Bandon Road now, so this community has the infrastructure to match the growth already on its doorstep.

“The Minns Labor Government is focused on the future, delivering the infrastructure communities need today and for years to come,” Minister for Roads Jenny Aitchison said.

Planning is currently progressing to upgrade the full 6.5-kilometre Bandon Road Corridor to ultimately link Windsor Road to Richmond Road through the Marsden Park North, Riverstone West, Riverstone and Vineyard precincts.

Once the eastern section of the upgrade is completed, it will reduce congestion as well as improve safety, flood resilience and connections for families in Riverstone, Box Hill, Marsden Park and Vineyard.

Moreover, upgrading the Bandon Road Corridor will provide direct access to Richmond Road, improve connections to Marsden Park, create an additional east-west link, and provide an alternative route that reduces the need to travel through Riverstone town centre.

This project is part of the more than $7.2 billion Minns Labor Government investment for Western Sydney roads since 2023, which will help keep the State’s fastest growing communities connected.

“It’s hard to overstate how important Bandon Road is to commuters in North West Sydney.

“The community has been waiting for this vital connection for over a decade, Bandon Road will have a huge positive impact for both the local area and throughout the region.

“Our community has experienced massive population growth without the necessary infrastructure needed. I’m proud to be part of the Minns Labor Government which is focused on funding road projects not simply promising them,” Member for Riverstone Warren Kirby said.
