Woodside is set to build its second Pluto LNG train as part of its $15.5 billion Scarborough project located in the Burrup Peninsula in Western Australia, and Woodside has chosen Bechtel as the preferred execution contractor for this expansion.

Woodside and Bechtel will be working closely to prepare for the awarding of the contract for the front-end engineering and design (FEED) phase, which will include further refining of the concept and cost for the project.

The FEED contract will also include the option for the full execute phase contract that is still subject to final investment decision.

“Expanding Pluto LNG will provide the necessary infrastructure to commercialise Western Australian gas resources for years to come.

“We look forward to progressing Train 2 concept definition work and continuing to build our relationship with Bechtel,” Woodside CEO Peter Coleman said.

Woodside’s proposed brownfield expansion on the Pluto LNG facility will include building a second LNG train with a target capacity of 4-5 Mtpa that will be able to facilitate the development of the 7.3 trillion cubic feet of gas resource from Scarborough.

Woodside is anticipating to begin the second train in 2024.
