Great Northern Connect, the JV between BGC Contracting Contracting and Laing O'Rourke O'Rourke Australia Construction, has been announced by the WA State Government as the successful tenderer for Stage Two of the $1.12 billion NorthLink WA initiative.

Outbidding other shortlisted proponents CPB Contractors Contractors and LLGJV (Lend Lease Engineering and Georgiou Group), Great Northern Connect will construct a the central section of the link, a freeway between the Reid Highway and Ellenbrook in Perth. This should provide a safer and more efficient link to the important north-eastern metropolitan centre.

In reporting the contract award, The West Australian elaborated that "The Buckeridge family’s mining-focused BGC Contracting said its role in the project included design and construction of nearly 20km of highway plus interchanges, road bridges and footbridges."

In January, John Holland was appointed as the contractor for Stage One of the link, Guildford Road to Reid Highway. The project turned its first sod today, and is expected to finish in early 2018.

Construction work on Stage Two is expected to start in late 2016 and finish in mid 2019.

Stage Three - the northern section of the link from Ellenbrook to Muchea - should start construction in mid 2017 and completion mid 2019.

It’s a large-scale project with large-scale benefits. The PlantMiner team will be able to assist with procuring any local supplires and plant needed for the project, including excavators, rollers, graders, trucks, and cranes – just to name a few.
