BHP has appointed CPB Contractors to deliver significant works on the port debottlenecking project at the Nelson Point operations in Port Hedland in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.
The CIMIC Group company was awarded a $100 million contract to deliver structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation works to help ease the bottleneck at the port.
“We’re pleased to be supporting BHP with this project. Our mining and resources experience and history in the Pilbara means we can collaborate on the project’s high standards of safety and quality,” CIMIC Group Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Juan Santamaria said.
“This project builds on CPB Contractors’ substantial experience in delivering resources infrastructure. We are pleased to continue our long-term partnership with BHP, to deliver another important resources project in the Pilbara,” CPB Contractors Managing Director Jason Spears said.
The debottlenecking project will involve both greenfield and brownfield works.
CPB Contractors will commence works this year and the project is due to be completed in 2023.
The Nelson Point operations is located in Port Hedland, a major port in the Pilbara. Port Hedland is Australia’s largest iron ore loading port and is also one of the largest in the world.
Port Hedland ports are linked to several mines in the Pilbara region, including Newman, Mining Area C, Yandi and Jimblebar.
