The South Australian Government has appointed the BMD Constructions and Leed joint venture to undertake the delivery of the Verdun Interchange Upgrade.

This project is being delivered as part of the $150 million – jointly funded by the Australian and State Governments – South Eastern Freeway Interchanges Upgrade.

Key features of the Verdun Interchange Upgrade will include:

  • A new eastbound entry ramp towards Mount Barker
  • A new westbound exit ramp
  • A new single lane roundabout at the Mount Barker Road and Silver Road junction
  • Existing Bus Stop 48A on both sides of Mount Barker Road to be consolidated with Bus Stop 49
  • Minor realignment of the freeway to accommodate the new exit ramp

The project is anticipated to be completed in late 2027.

Once open to traffic, the upgraded interchange will help boost commuter safety, enhance connectivity and improve traffic flow to support the continued growth in the wider Adelaide Hills region.

The collaboration between BMD, Leed and trusted design partner Mott MacDonald draws on proven expertise and local knowledge. This partnership is well placed to deliver a design that improves the area’s overall functionality while minimising disruption to traffic as well as the surrounding community.

“By leveraging our deep understanding of local conditions and longstanding relationships across the region, we’ve worked closely with our joint venture partner Leed to further develop the design and construction approach to deliver value for money.

“This includes streamlined ramp alignments, an integral bridge structure and improved drainage systems. All of which support ease of construction and long-term maintenance.

“Together with Leed, we’re drawing on our combined expertise to deliver critical infrastructure that meets the State’s needs. We’re also focused on strengthening industry partnerships, developing a skilled workforce, and maximising social and economic opportunities as part of this important project,” BMD Constructions Southern Region General Manager Antony Damiani said.
