BMD has announced that it has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction contract for works at the Hawkesdale wind Farm project in the south west region of Victoria.
Under this contract, BMD will be delivering Balance of Plant (BoP) works, including design and construction of access tracks, crane pads, site cabling, a 33kV substation as well as the construction of the wind turbine foundations.
“With completion expected in late 2021, the award of the project highlights BMD’s commitment to delivering renewable energy projects with a local presence and bolsters our reputation for collaborating with specialist subcontractors and partners within the renewable sector,” BMD said in its statement.
For this project, BMD will again be working with Consolidated Power Projects who will be undertaking electrical works for the Hawkesdale Wind Farm project.
The Hawkesdale Wind Farm is being developed by Global Power Generation – a subsidiary of Naturgy Energy Group – and the project will comprise of 23 wind turbines with a total output capacity of 96MW.
The wind farm is going to be built on a 2,280-hectare site within the Moyne Shire Local Government Area – which is mainly used for agricultural activities such as sheep and cattle grazing – located approximately 5 kilometres south east of the Hawkesdale township, 30 kilometres north west of Warrnambool and 175 kilometres west of Geelong.
Once up and running, Hawkesdale Wind Farm is going to be connected to the grid through the existing 500kV Tarrone Terminal Station via a 132kV overhead transmission circuit.
The new wind farm is expected to begin operations by the third quarter of 2022.
