Construction is ready to commence by March of next year on a new pedestrian bridge over the Brisbane River towards the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane development as Destination Brisbane Consortium awards the construction contract to Fitzgerald Constructions Australia.

“Fitzgerald Constructions will deliver Brisbane’s newest bridge in more than 10 years and create an icon for the river city.

“We are confident that Fitzgerald Constructions will do a great job delivering what will become an iconic symbol across the heart of our city,” Destination Brisbane Consortium Project Director Simon Crooks said.

The Neville Bonner Bridge - named after Australia’s first Indigenous parliament member - is part of the $3.6 billion Queen’s Wharf Brisbane development and it will be the link between South Bank and Queen’s Wharf.

Works will start at South Bank - between the Wheel of Brisbane and the edge of the river - and will connect to the integrated resort over the Riverside Expressway by April 2021.

“The bridge will be built from South Bank first across the river to join with the integrated resort development’s key retail, food and beverage level.

“It’s a significant construction contract that will take around 24 months to complete and cross over the top of the Riverside Expressway,” Mr Crooks said.

Queen’s Wharf Brisbane is a multi-billion dollar integrated resort development that will deliver a diverse selection of open spaces, high-quality dining options, exciting nightlife and entertainment choices as well as local and international retail brands, and world-class hotels.

This new integrated resort development is anticipated to create up to 2,000 jobs during peak construction and approximately 8,000 jobs once it is fully operational.
