Brisbane is one step closer to getting a new riverwalk following the appointment of the Georgiou Group and Brady Marine and Civil joint venture to undertake the construction of the $37 million Indooroopilly Riverwalk project for the Brisbane City Council.

“Over the past five years, we have built a strong relationship with [Brisbane City Council] where we understand their needs and they understand our capability and ability.

“Additionally, the synergy between Georgiou and Brady Civil cannot be underestimated with the two companies currently partnering on a number of projects across Queensland and New South Wales in a joint venture arrangement,” Georgiou Group Chief Executive Officer Rob Monaci said.

The Indooroopilly Riverwalk project will include:

  • A five-metre-wide pedestrian and two-way separated cyclist facility
  • Shared cyclist and pedestrian connection to Foxton Street from the riverwalk
  • An upgrade of the Foxton Street and Radnor Street intersection to create a safer environment for all road users
  • Connection to the Jack Pesch Bridge and Indooroopilly Rail Station by linking the riverwalk to the existing path at Witton Barracks
  • A dedicated pedestrian connection to Riverview Terrace
  • Viewing platforms on the riverwalk overlooking the Brisbane River and the iconic Walter Taylor Bridge
  • Lighting along the length of the riverwalk
  • Landscaping and wayfinding signage

Once completed, the new riverwalk will improve safety as well as efficiency for both pedestrians and cyclists by providing a separate off-road path.

Approximately 60 jobs are going to be supported during peak construction.

The new Indooroopilly Riverwalk is due to be completed by the second half of 2021.
