Construction is due to begin mid this year on the $479 million Ryde Hospital Redevelopment in New South Wales following the appointment of a building contractor for the project.
AW Edwards will lead this project's delivery, with works to include the demolition of old buildings, construction of new hospital buildings and refurbishment of existing hospital spaces.
The State Government is investing in delivering a world-class health facility that will meet the future healthcare needs of the region’s growing community. The Ryde Hospital Redevelopment will help enhance a range of healthcare services for Ryde and the surrounding communities.
This hospital redevelopment will deliver new and expanded emergency department and intensive care unit, new theatres, new purpose-built ambulatory care centre, new paediatric short stay unit, more adult overnight inpatient beds and expanded medical imaging.
“I am really pleased the Ryde Hospital Redevelopment is moving ahead and will transform healthcare for the local community, providing the growing community the latest facilities and models of care.
“This project will expand capacity at the hospital, delivering more adult overnight beds, plus it’ll feature a brand-new ED, ICU, operating theatres, a custom-built ambulatory care centre and a paediatric short stay unit.
“This is a major redevelopment which will provide new and enhanced services within a modern, contemporary facility to ensure patients continue to receive the best possible care,” Minister for Health Ryan Park said.
The current services available at the Ryde campus, including Graythwaite Rehabilitation Centre and historic Denistone House, will be made best use of for the redevelopment.
The New South Wales Government will work closely with AW Edwards to minimise impact during construction and ensure Ryde Hospital will remain open throughout the life of the project.
NSW Health will continue to inform hospital staff, patients and the community as work progresses on the redevelopment.
