Uniting Communities – a South Australian charity – has appointed Built to deliver the charity’s $80 million mixed-use CBD development in Adelaide, and works are set to commence soon.

“We’re delighted to have signed a contract with built, an organisation with a tremendous reputation to deliver this hugely exciting project for South Australia,” said Uniting Communities Chief Executive Simon Schrapel.

The project is a redevelopment of Uniting Communities’ Franklin Street headquarters. The 20-storey mixed-use development, designed by Woods Bagot, is a South Australian first and it will be featuring:

  • A specialist disability short stay accommodation facility
  • Six floors of retirement living residences
  • Specially designed long-term rental accommodation for people living with disability
  • Retail and office spaces
  • 400-seat function centre as well as a ground floor café and retail centre
  • Space to cater to a wide range of Uniting Communities services

The building has been branded ‘U City’ and it will take approximately two years to complete, supporting up to 180 jobs during construction and 30 ongoing jobs once operational.

“The building’s name, ‘U City’ was chosen to sum up the multi-faceted activities within our new building, including a central city, high-rise retirement village.

“It’s modern, simple and a little bit quirky, reflecting the essence of the wide range of vital services Uniting Communities provides to South Australians in need,” Mr Schrapel said.
