Construction has commenced ahead of schedule on Calidus Resources Limited’s Warrawoona Gold Project in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The company has also announced that it has appointed two contractors to undertake works related to the project’s development.

Initial works on site will provide the base infrastructure requirements to prepare for the beginning of major construction activities in the first quarter of 2021.

Early works will include:

  • Construction of a 7-kilometre access road to the village and process plant
  • Installation of a 240-room village that has been previously purchased by Calidus
  • Installation and operation of communications by Telstra
  • Installation and equipping of water bores

“The commencement of construction activities at Warrawoona is a major milestone for Calidus. Installing the base infrastructure this year will provide a springboard to allow on-ground activities to kick off in earnest in Q1 2021, subject to finalisation of all permits and financing,

“We are also pleased to announce the preferred tenderers for our two largest value contracts, the open pit mining contract and the EPC process plant contract,” Calidus Managing Director Dave Reeves said.

Calidus Resources has appointed Macmahon Holdings Limited as the preferred contractor to undertake open pit mining at the Warrawoona project.

Macmahon’s scope of works will include the development of a new open cut mine and potentially several early stage civil works as well as underground mining activities.

The company is expecting to begin works on site in the first half of 2021, employing approximately 120 personnel to undertake the works.

“We are delighted to be selected by Calidus as the preferred contractor for its Warrawoona Gold Project and look forward to being part of the successful development of the mine. This work will form a key part of our exposure to Western Australia’s thriving gold sector,” Macmahon Holdings CEO and Managing Director Micahel Finnegan said.

On the other hand, Calidus Resources has awarded the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the process plant to GR Engineering Services (GRES).

Under this contract, GRES will be undertaking the design and construction of the process plant as well as associated infrastructure for the Warrawoona Gold Project.

“GR Engineering is pleased to have been appointed as preferred tenderer by Calidus. We are excited to continue work with the Calidus management team and look forward to Calidus becoming one of Australia’s newest gold producers,” GRES Managing Director Geoff Jones said.
