Civmec’s Metals and Minerals division has been awarded a stand-alone contract to deliver various works for the Iron Bridge Magnetite Project in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.
The Dry Plant Detailed Earthworks and Concrete package awarded to Civmec will involve the construction of the structural concrete components for the mine’s dry plant which includes the primary, secondary and tertiary crushing areas; screening areas; air classification and primary grinding areas; course ore stockpil; dry rejects; conveyors; and all related earthworks.
The earthworks will involve moving approximately 350,000 cubic metres of earth as well as the fixing of about 500 tonnes of steel reinforcement and the placement of up to 38,000 cubic metres of concrete.
Civmec estimates employment of up to 200 workers at peak construction. The company is also committing to engage with the Local Aboriginal Enterprises for this project.
Construction will commence immediately and is due to be completed in the first quarter of 2022.

Hence, we are extremely pleased to be given this further opportunity to continue to work with Fortescue on the Iron Bridge project,” CIvmec Chief Executive Officer Patrick Tallon said.
The Iron Bridge Magnetite Project is a joint venture development between Fortescue Metals Group’s subsidiary FMG Iron Bridge Ltd and Formosa Steel IB.
The project is located about 145 kilometres south of Port Hedland and it will comprise of a new magnetite mine that will support the production of 22Mtpa of high-grade magnetite concentrate product.
“This is an exciting project of a very significant scale with a declared value for the overall project being US$2.6 billion. The Iron Bridge Joint Venture has demonstrated and refined each step of the magnetite ore processing system and conducted full-scale trials to ensure the effectiveness of the process and gain confidence in the overall project success,” Mr Tallon said.
First ore from Iron Bridge is expected to be on ship by mid-2022.
