Concept designs for new Melton Station revealed

Concept designs for the new Melton Station in Victoria have been released to the public, giving local communities a first look at the future station.

The new Melton Station is going to be built as part of the level crossing removal project in Melton that will see four dangerous and congested level crossings replaced with new rail and road bridges.

“We’re getting rid of four dangerous and congested level crossings and making Melton boom gate free by 2026, so locals in the west can get home faster,” Minister for Transport Infrastructure Danny Pearson said.

The new elevated station will feature four platforms that will cater to the growing demand for rail transport in the region. The future Melton Station will be accessible from both sides of the rail, and it will provide pedestrian walkways, cycling paths, pick-up and drop-off zones, and lifts and stairs to each platform.

In addition, a new air-conditioned waiting room and staffed ticket office will be built that will have lighting and security cameras throughout the surrounding area. The new station will also provide better connections for cyclists, trains, buses and car parking with a new multi-bay bus interchange.

“We’re getting on with this project which will allow locals to never get stuck at this level crossing again,” Member for Kororoit Luba Grigorovitch said.

The Melton level crossing removal project will ultimately introduce larger nine-car VLocity trains as part of the $650 million Melton Line Upgrade. Not only will the project increase capacity for passengers by 50 per cent and create up to 1,000 construction jobs, but it will also make roads safer and less congested for pedestrians.

A new train stabling facility is being investigated to be built at Cobblebank, which will support the introduction of nine-car trains to the line. The facility will store trains that are not operating, and it will further support local jobs in construction and ongoing maintenance.

The early concept designs for the new Melton Station precinct and level crossing removals were shaped by community feedback and technical requirements. The community is now encouraged to have their say on the concept designs

In the coming months, designs for the removal of level crossings at Ferris Road in Melton and Hopkins Road in Truganina will be released and consultation will follow.

“The designs for our new Melton Station and level crossing removals will take us one step closer to this growing suburb becoming level crossing free – I encourage everyone to have their say on this important project,” Member for Melton Steve McGhie said.
