Construction has commenced on the 34-kilometre Devils Pulpit to Richmond River section of the Pacific Highway – Woolgoolga to Ballina Upgrade in New South Wales.
“Drivers travelling the length of the highway are currently saving close to two hours in travel time and the number of fatalities has halved from more than 50 in 1996, which is a great outcome,” Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester said.
According to NSW Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight Melinda Pavey, progress on the entire project is well underway and is due for completion in 2020.
“Since August this year, the Halfway Creek to Glenugie upgrade has opened to traffic and 10 kilometres of Woolgoolga to Halfway Creek has opened with the remaining four kilometres expected to open before Christmas,” Mrs Pavey said.
Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan said that this project is an important investment in NSW’s road network and for the local community.
“This project is really delivering for the community, with more than 300 direct jobs created on this section of the upgrade, continuing our commitment to deliver jobs for regional Australians,” Mr Hogan said.
The contract to build this section of project was awarded to CPB Contractors in September 2017
