Heron Resources has announced the official start of construction at its Woodlawn Zinc-Copper project, located 250-kilometres south west of Sydney.

The engineering, procurement and construction contract as well as the earthworks contract were respectively awarded to Sedgman and to Ertech earlier this year. Both contractors have commenced mobilisation to the site.

This project includes the construction of a 1.5Mtpa processing plant and associated infrastructure, which is expected to take 15 months to complete. Project commissioning is set for late 2018, with first production expected in early 2019.

Approximately 250 jobs will be supported during the construction phase, and over 150 permanent positions will be required for mine operations.

“Today’s ground breaking at Woodlawn marks a major milestone in Heron’s journey from a developer toward becoming a long term, low cost and profitable base metals producer.

“The commencement of construction is the culmination of many years of hard work by our team and would not be possible without the support of our shareholders, financiers and the local community,” Heron’s Managing Director Wayne Taylor said.
