Construction contract awarded for Toowoomba to Warwick Pipeline project

The construction contract for the Toowoomba to Warwick Pipeline has been awarded to the CPB Contractors Pty Ltd and NACAP Pty Ltd joint venture.

This contract award marks a major milestone in securing long-term water supply for Toowoomba and the Southern Downs.

“We are proud to have been selected to deliver the Toowoomba to Warwick Pipeline as a joint venture between CPB Contractors and NACAP.

“We are committed to delivering the pipeline safely and efficiently while maximising opportunities for local employment and training throughout delivery,” CPB Contractors Managing Director Craig Nuttall said.

The approximately 111-kilometre pipeline will be built in two stages, with Stage 1 works to commence later this year.

The pipeline will transfer raw water from upstream of Mount Kynoch Water Treatment Plant in Toowoomba to Warwick Reservoir near Leslie Dam. Water is going to be sourced from Wivenhoe Dam via the existing Wivenhoe to Cressbrook pipeline as well as other water infrastructure owned by Toowoomba Regional Council.

The first stage of the project will build the pipeline up to Greenmount, about 25 kilometres south of Toowoomba, delivering a permanent water supply to the growing communities of Nobby, Cambooya, Greenmount and Clifton.

Stage 2, on the other hand, will construct about 64 kilometres of pipeline from Greenmount to Warwick, which will deliver enhanced drought contingency when needed. This stage of the project is still subject to a future government decision and ongoing assessment of water security requirements for the Southern Downs before it is delivered.

“The Crisafulli Government is delivering this critical project to ensure communities across Toowoomba and the Southern Downs have a reliable and secure water supply.

“By progressing the pipeline in stages, we are balancing investment with long-term water security and making sure regional infrastructure keeps pace with growth, demand and future opportunities,” Minister for Water Ann Leahy said.

“Securing a reliable water supply is essential to supporting our growing communities, attracting future investment and ensuring we can continue to create jobs and opportunities across the region.

“This milestone brings us a step closer to strengthening water security for generations to come while delivering significant economic benefits for local businesses and workers during construction,” Toowoomba Regional Council Mayor Geoff McDonald said.

Seqwater is delivering the Toowoomba to Warwick Pipeline on behalf of the Queensland Government, who has confirmed more than $300 million in funding for the project.

The Crisafulli Government is committed to restoring confidence in regional Queensland by developing critical water infrastructure and securing long-term water supply for regional communities.

“This project is about securing the region’s long-term water future and delivering the infrastructure our region needs, after too many years of delay and uncertainty under Labor,” Treasurer and Member for Toowoomba South David Janetzki said.

“Seqwater is delivering the project on behalf of the Queensland Government to strengthen water security for Toowoomba and protect the corridor for the project that could deliver long-term benefits for the Southern Downs.

“The project is expected to support around 400 construction jobs, with local recruitment already underway. We will continue working closely with the delivery partner to finalise planning and approvals, while keeping the community informed as we move towards construction,” Seqwater CEO Emma Thomas said.
