Victoria’s Sunraysia region is going to be home to the 112MW Karadoc Solar Farm, which is developed by German company BayWa r.e. Renewable Energy and Beon Energy Solutions will carry out the design, construction and commissioning of the solar farm.

The Karadoc Solar Farm is going to be located 20 kilometres south of Mildura and it will comprise of more than 340,000 solar panels. Karadoc is projected to generate enough clean energy to power up to 110,000 homes in the region.

“BayWa r.e.’s commitment to the Karadoc solar farm demonstrates that utility-scale solar farms have a big future in the Mildura region, which will lead to significant short-term and ongoing regional development opportunities while helping to achieve Australia’s renewable energy target,” Beon’s General Manager Glen Thomson said.

The large-scale solar farm is expected to support up to 300 jobs during construction and installation. The Karadoc Solar Farm is expected to be completed by late 2018.

In line with the construction of Karadoc, Melbourne-based brewer Carlton & United Breweries (CUB) has signed a 12-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with BayWa r.e. for an annual supply of 74,000 MWh of renewable energy. This supports the company’s drive towards 100 per cent clean energy to power its operations.

“… we have a responsibility to ensure we play our part in tackling climate change and a range of environmental challenges,” CUB’s CEO Jan Craps said.
