Construction of $300m office building in Adelaide to create 2000 jobs

A new 20-storey office building is going to be built in Adelaide, South Australia which will create thousands of jobs during its construction as well as deliver long term savings for South Australian taxpayers.

The $300 million project was developed by Cbus Property Pty Ltd and it is going to be built at 83 Pirie Street.

The new office building will become the home-base of the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) - with its city-based operations from seven locations consolidated into one building.

“As our economy feels the impacts of COVID-19 it is essential that we continue to support the construction sector here in South Australia by delivering new projects.

“This new $300 million building will support up to 2,000 jobs during the construction phase and provide more work for local businesses and contractors,” Premier Steven Marshall said.

The State Government is supporting projects such as the 83 Pirie Street development to complement its record $12.9 billion investment on infrastructure works that will create local jobs and security for businesses.

In addition, the consolidation of all seven city operations of DPTI to one location will provide massive savings to taxpayers.

“The new ten-year lease will see DPTI occupy less than 18,500m2, reducing the department’s footprint and delivering savings of more than $50 million over the term of the lease.

“DPTI will be the anchor tenant for this new building and occupy ten levels of the 20-storey complex when the lease agreement begins in 2023,” Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government Stephan Knoll said.

Detailed design works on the multi-million-dollar project will get underway this year and a preferred builder is anticipated to be appointed by late 2020.
