Goldwind Australia has announced that it has signed a commercial agreement with TransGrid for the connection as well as the construction of connection assets for the Coppabella Wind Farm in New South Wales’ Southern Tablelands region.

This agreement takes the project a step closer to being built.

“We are pleased to once again work with our long-term partner TransGrid to construct the connection assets and to operate and maintain the connection for Coppabella Wind Farm.

TransGrid has a strong track record with Goldwind, having successfully delivered connection works on Gullen Range Wind Farm, Gullen Solar Farm, White Rock Wind Farm and White Rock Solar Farm,” Coppabella Wind Farm Development Manager Tom Nielsen said.

In order to facilitate the development of the Coppabella Wind Farm, TransGrid will rebuild approximately 39 kilometres’ worth of its transmission line – Line 99M – between the wind farm and Yass substation.

According to information on TransGrid’s website, the rebuilding project will comprise of new 40-metre-high steel or concrete pole transmission structures and the construction of a new switch bay as well as associated electrical and communications connection works at Yass substation.

The Coppabella Wind Farm is located about 30 kilometres west of Yass and the project site will span up to 12 kilometres west to east and approximately 10 kilometres north to south along the Coppabella Hills near the towns of Bookham and Binalong.

This renewable energy project will include the construction and operation of up to 75 wind turbines and related civil and electrical infrastructures.

Once up and running, the Coppabella Wind Farm will be able to produce 900GWh of clean energy a year, enough to power more than 150,000 New South Wales homes.

In addition, the project is expected to support up to 150 jobs during its construction phase and a further 15 permanent ongoing maintenance jobs once operational.
