Utility scale solar projects developer Eco Energy World (EEW) Australia has been given planning consent to develop a 140-megawatt solar farm near Maryborough in Queensland. The $280 million project will cover the area of about 800 acres with over 500,000 ground-mounted solar panels.

Construction is expected to begin in early 2017 and, once operational, the solar farm will be able to generate enough renewable energy which will meet the annual power needs of approximately 55,000 households.

The project – which is a collaboration between EEW and the Fraser Coast Regional Council – will create up to 150 jobs during construction and at least six full-time as well as 11 part-time jobs once the solar farm is in operation.

“We are so pleased for the Aramara area and the Fraser Coast Region. This project will increase the utility solar generation by 140MW and will create new opportunities for the community including a large number of jobs and services,” EEW Chairman Svante Kumlin said.
