Work is about to commence on the $540 million Roe 8 highway extension project in Western Australia. The State Government has announced that they are finalising the contract to build Roe 8 which will be awarded to a consortium led by CIMIC Group.

Transport Minister Bill Marmion said that the contract is expected to be awarded to the consortium comprising of CPB Contractors, Georgiou Group, WA Limestone, GHD, AECOM and BG&E in coming days

The extension project will involve the construction of a 5 kilometre, four-lane dual carriageway along Roe Highway – from Kwinana Freeway intersection to Stock Road. According to Premier Colin Barnett, the project will deliver major benefits to the Western Australian economy.

The Roe 8 extension project will also be creating between 400 to 500 direct jobs as well as thousands of indirect opportunities during the construction phase.

“Roe 8 is part of the 85km freight route from Muchea to Fremantle and will redistribute more than 6,900 trucks and 74,000 light vehicles per day from existing routes in the area.

“This project will substantially reduce congestion, improve freight efficiency, road safety and access to key activity centres including Murdoch,” Premier Barnett said.

According to Federal Minister for Urban Infrastructure Paul Fletcher, it is welcoming news that the contract for Roe 8 – which is part of the $1.9 billion Perth Freight Link project – has been approved.

“We look forward to further announcements in the near future in relation to development of the next stage of Perth Freight Link, which will extend from Stock Road to the Fremantle Inner Harbour,” said Minister Fletcher.

Construction is expected to begin in late 2016.
