It's a very exciting time to be involved in the Darling Down's construction industry with the $1.6 billion Toowoomba Second Range Crossing Project (TSCR) commencing construction in late April 2016. In fact, the project itself is generating so much interest that visitor centres and information booths are being set up around the region. Learn more about the Nexus's April TSRC update below.
Activities will occur concurrently across all areas, promising a hotspot of plant and equipment. To name a few, expect to see excavators, rollers, compactors, truck cranes, franna cranes, forklifts, air compressors, compactors, portable toilets, generators and more.
The project, which Nexus says will be build mostly by local workers, will take about three years to complete. The focus of construction for the $1.6 billion project, which will transform the region's road network, will be on vegetation clearing and works on structures and earthworks. Early works including geotechnical investigations, surveying, flora and fauna assessments and site establishment works are all progressing well in the lead up to construction. The site compound at Hermitage Road, Cranley is almost complete with carpark construction and landscaping underway.
EOIs for work packages are still underway but we should start to see contract awards start to trickle in soon. Watch this space!
More than 1500 suppliers, subcontractors and job seekers attended a series of procurement and employment information sessions for the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing project late last year. According to a Transport and Main Roads spokeswoman, interest has only increased. The soon-to-be set up booths will provide the community with up-to-date project information, including fact sheets, construction notifications and other resources.
