The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has awarded Georgiou Group Pty Ltd a second contract worth $18.5 million to deliver works on the central section of the Southport-Burleigh Road upgrade in Queensland.
Georgiou will be removing the on-street parking to construct a third traffic lane in each direction. They will also be constructing a shared off-road pedestrian and cycle pathway as well as upgrade works on the Continuous Flow Intersection (CFI).
The upgraded CFI designed by the Department will be able to address traffic congestion and, at the same time, provide an additional access from the south to Surfers Paradise.
This latest contract will include works on the Southport-Burleigh Road from Vespa Crescent in Bundall all the way to the Monaco Street Bridge in Sorrento.
Georgiou is currently working on the southern section of the Southport-Burleigh Road network – which was awarded back in August 2016 – and the latest contract will further strengthen the company’s growth in Queensland.
“…this latest win will ensure we continue to build vital public infrastructure for the Queensland community,” said Georgiou Group QLD General Manager Gary Georgiou.
This additional project on the Southport-Burleigh Road will deliver up to 120 jobs during the peak of construction, with works expected to be completed in late 2017.
