Monadelphous Group has announced that the company has secured its first contract with Albemarle Lithium Pty Ltd. The contract is for major construction works at the new Kemerton lithium hydroxide plant in Western Australia.

Under this contract, Monadelphous will deliver the package of works related to pyromet structural, mechanical and piping (SMP), and associated piping fabrication for the lithium hydroxide plant.

The company will begin works immediately, with construction due for completion by early 2021. Monadelphous will also be supporting the local economy through local employment and procurement.

“We look forward to working with Albemarle for the first time on the construction of such an important project and to expand our presence in the growing lithium sector,” Monadelphous Managing Director Rob Velletri said.

Construction on the $1 billion Kemerton lithium hydroxide plant commenced early in 2019.

The project is being built on an 89-hectare site located in the Kemerton Strategic Industrial Area approximately 160 kilometres south of Perth and 17 kilometres north east of Bunbury.

Once the lithium hydroxide plant is completed, it will be process spodumene ore concentrates from the nearby Talison Lithium Greenbushes mine and produce up to 100,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide annually.

The Kemerton project is expected to generate 1,000 local jobs - 500 during construction and 500 once it is operational.

In February of this year, Civmec was awarded the contract to build the Kemerton lithium hydroxide plant. You can read more about it here.
