Works to upgrade Western Australia’s Karel Avenue will soon commence and Georgiou Group has been awarded the design and construction contract for the $24 million project.

For this project, the company is expecting to have a workforce of 50 on site during peak construction.

“In delivering this design and construction contract, we have the opportunity to utilise our team’s vast expertise and innovative thinking to provide cost and time effective solutions for our client and road-users, the WA taxpayers,” Georgiou Group Chief Executive Officer Rob Monaci said.

This multi-million dollar project will include:

  • Widening the Karel Avenue bridge over Roe Highway
  • Extending Karel Avenue bridge across the freight railway line located south of Roe Highway to facilitate the construction of the Thornlie-Cockburn Link as part of METRONET
  • Extending the existing Karel Avenue underpass to accommodate the widening
  • Modifying the existing Training Place intersection to left in and left out to promote safe access
  • Widening Karel Avenue between Farrington Road intersection and Roe Highway to four lanes
  • Widening Karel Avenue between Roe Highway and the Berrigan Drive roundabout to a four-lane dual carriageway, including modifications to the roundabout approaches to enable two lanes in each direction

Georgiou will begin early works to prepare the site for major construction in July of this year and the upgrade is due to be completed by July 2020.

Once completed, the upgrade will help reduce congestion, improve access as well as support development in the Jandakot Industrial Area.
