Fulton Hogan has been awarded the $50 million contract to deliver repair works on the Boondooma Dam spillway in Queensland’s South Burnett region.
According to Queensland Water and Energy Minister Mark Bailey, this project is vital to maintain a secure and efficient water supply for the industries in the region. Mr Bailey also said that this project will help boost the local economy be supporting up to 120 jobs.
“Boondooma Dam provides critical water supply for agricultural, domestic and industrial customers, including one of the state’s largest electricity generating sites – Tarong Power Station,” Mr Bailey said.
Treasurer Curtis Pitt said that Fulton Hogan is highly experienced with the construction of regional water infrastructures, making them the ideal contractor to take on the job.
“Fulton Hogan will undertake works to strengthen the spillway chute, which will include the installation of additional defensive anchors and concrete protection of the spillway walls,” Mr Pitt said.
Construction is expected to commence in January 2017. According to Mr Pitt, works will not impact public access to recreational amenities in the area – such as boat ramps, picnic areas and other dam amenities – but there will be minor traffic and noise disruptions as well as occasional road closures.
