More works to upgrade the Burce Highway between Cooroy and Curra are due to get underway soon as the Queensland Government awards a construct-only contract valued at $289 million to CIMIC Group company CPB Contractors.

The contract award will get CPB Contractors to deliver the Bruce Highway Upgrade – Cooroy to CUrra Section D: Woondum to Curra (C2CD) – Contract 2.

“CIMIC Group is pleased to be selected to deliver this important project through CPB Contractors. We look forward to working with communities in the Sandy Creek Road to Curra area and supporting the achievement of greater safety outcomes for road users based on our experience in regional projects in Queensland,” CIMIC Group Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Juan Santamaria said.

CPB Contractors’ scope of works include the construction of a new 18-kilometre section of the highway, realignment works to local roads, building 19 bridges as well as an interchange at Curra.

Works are expected to commence this year and are due to be completed in mid-2024.

“CPB Contractors successfully completed Section C of the Cooroy to Curra upgrade and will apply that local knowledge to delivering this section safely and with the least disruption possible. We are also committed to engaging with local workers and businesses to facilitate skills development, work opportunities and other community benefits,” CPB Contractors Managing Director Jason Spears said.

The billion-dollar project is being delivered in two construction contracts, with the first package of works already underway since October 2020.

The first contract – covering Woondum interchange to Sandy Creek Road – was awarded to the joint venture between Bielby Holdings and BMD.
