The second stage of the $1 billion Nepean Hospital Redevelopment in New South Wales will soon begin construction and CPB Contractors has been appointed to undertake the works.

The CIMIC Group company will generate approximately $260 million from this contract.

“We are pleased to have another opportunity to use our building expertise to deliver essential infrastructure for the people of Western Sydney, delivering a new building that will seamlessly connect to the Stage 1 tower. We have a long-term commitment to the region and are involved in delivering assets and infrastructure that will benefit the community for decades to come,” CIMIC Group Executive Chairman Juan Santamaria said.

“CPB Contractors successfully delivered the redevelopment of the Campbelltown Hospital and Nepean Hospital’s Stage 1 and our teams will use this experience to minimise any disruption to the health campus. We will ensure that local training, employment and supplier opportunities are maximised as we safely deliver this project,” CPB Contractors Managing Director Jason Spears said.

Stage 2 of the Nepean Hospital Redevelopment will include:

  • An Intensive Care Unit
  • Medical imaging services and nuclear medicine
  • An in-centre renal dialysis unit
  • More in-patient beds including paediatrics
  • A new front of house and reception area

“The NSW Government is delivering a second state-of-the-art clinical services building for the upgraded Nepean Hospital, which will seamlessly connect with the first tower we opened earlier this year (2022). This incredible expansion of Nepean Hospital will provide the very best healthcare for the Penrith and Blue Mountains communities,” Minister for Health Brad Hazzard said.

This stage of the redevelopment will also provide an improved community-based healthcare in Penrith that will deliver benefits to local families and young people now and into the future.

“In addition to a second state-of-the-art clinical services building we’re delivering a community health centre in Soper Place, right in the heart of Penrith, where locals can easily access integrated health care and mental health services for families and young people at home and in the community.

“With both the consultation and design currently underway, I encourage everyone to have a say in shaping their new community health centre by completing the online survey which is open now,” Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres said.

Major construction on Stage 2 will commence early this year.

Enabling works are currently being delivered, which include the relocation of some services, repurposing some of the existing infrastructure as well as the delivery of an expanded pathology service on the ground floor of Building E.

“The Nepean Hospital campus is buzzing with activity as we prepare the campus for main works in 2023 for the second new clinical services building, creating more job opportunities and ensuring better health outcomes for local people.

“The next stage of this major redevelopment builds on the enhanced services and health facilities now available in the hospital’s new clinical tower to provide our region with more high-quality healthcare, making it an even more appealing place to work and live,” Member for Mulgoa Tanya Davies said.

The Stage 1 of the Nepean Hospital Redevelopment project included a new clinical building that opened in 2022 and it features an emergency department, 18 birthing suites, a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, 16 operating theatres and over 200 beds in contemporary and bright in-patient units. The 14-storey tower also has coronary care services and an additional inpatient unit floor.
